Hurtwood

A New Alliance!

Hurtwood is delighted to announce that it is joining forces with Anomie Publishing on its publishing programme for 2023–24.

Anomie’s Matt Price will work as Publisher across the Anomie and Hurtwood imprints, bringing almost a quarter of a century of editorial and publishing experience in the visual arts to the Hurtwood team.

Anomie will benefit from the wealth of project management, print and production expertise offered by Hurtwood’s Francis Atterbury and his Westminster-based team at a time when both publishers’ lists are rapidly expanding.

Speaking about the partnership, Price asserts: ‘It’s a pleasure to be working with Hurtwood, a publishing house I have known and admired for over fifteen years. Their work on Gilbert & George’s publishing output for the past two decades has been consistently inspiring and they always create carefully considered and exquisitely produced titles. Hurtwood is famous for its creative ambition and for its understanding of what print can do. I am looking forward to learning much over the year ahead while also helping to lead and to develop both Anomie and Hurtwood’s trade publishing activities. At a time when independent arts publishing faces challenges from what feels to be an increasingly profit-focussed publishing industry, it is refreshing to find a fellow publisher that is as genuinely passionate about art, books and people as Anomie.’

Atterbury comments: ‘I’m excited about this new collaboration with Anomie Publishing. Hurtwood has followed Anomie’s development with great interest over the past ten years and I have been impressed by the lists that Price has built in this time, working with an exciting range of early career, mid-career and senior practitioners from Britain and internationally, particularly contemporary painters. I am confident that teaming up in this way will be of considerable mutual benefit and am looking forward to the partnership over the coming trade seasons.’

Hurtwood began publishing books on the fine and graphic arts in 1978. It is an independent publisher of beautiful books, produced in collaboration with authors, artists, major institutions and collections.

Anomie Publishing was established in 2013 and has published over fifty titles in partnership with gallery and art-world clients. Anomie’s Publisher, Matt Price, has previously produced titles for major trade publishers including Phaidon, Rizzoli, Hatje Cantz and Thames & Hudson.
