For the last ten years, Ptolemy has been traveling to India on a regular basis to oversee her rug weaving collaborations. In February 2020 she was lucky enough to make one final trip before the world changed significantly, almost overnight. Following this, many months were spent alone in her studio mulling over this last trip. Painting from memory, she began to conjure up the sensations of the country with a focus on light and colour; not in a literal representation of its landscape, but in the way it made her feel.
This has resulted in an ongoing series of small gestural paintings of which four works have been reproduced as prints in this set. The small explosions of colour and light take you on an Indian Odyssey of your own.

Ptolemy Mann has been creating work from her studio since 1997. Using her signature hand dyeing and weaving techniques, she creates architectural and chromatic wall based pieces for private, public and corporate clients. Ptolemy has also worked as a commercial textile designer and has produced a range of furnishing fabrics, cushions, bed linen and throws with various brands and retailers. In 2005 she launched an architectural colour consulting service and in 2014 established her own rug design company called GELIM in partnership with Rugmaker.
For over 20 years Ptolemy has worked as a textile journalist and lecturer. Her unique approach to hand dyeing and weaving in a dynamic modern context brings her craft into the 21st century. A modern-day Bauhaus philosophy of product and art making combined with intelligent colour theory underpins all of her work both creative and commercial.
If your print has been sent rolled, please leave it open and at room temperature until it lies completely flat before framing.
All prints will fade if left in direct sunlight. For this reason, and for maximum life, we recommend you frame your prints using UV filtered glass and hung out of direct sunlight.
